Phuket is the largest, and probably most famous, island in Thailand. The Phuket Big Buddha watches over Phuket from the top of the serene Nakkerd hills. One of the most distinctive landmarks of the island, the location offers fantastic panoramic views from the foot of the 45-meter monument.

Island Boat Tours take little effort and are a nice getaway from a getaway. Get off the beach and into the stunning seascapes, and local cultures of the surrounding Nakha Yai, Nakha Noi, Maphrao, Racha Noi, Racha Yai, Koh Kaeo, and Koh Poo islands.

Patong Beach is the longest beach on the island, and a bustling hub of tourism-related activity, people watching, shopping, and entertainment. 

Kata Beach is less touristy, and more about lush hillsides and a curving shoreline. There is also snorkeling, and some very decent food options.

Karon Beach is a hidden gem of golden sand and aquamarine waters perfect for a swim in calm weather.

Karon Viewpoint is also known as the Three Beaches Hill. This vantage point offers clear views of the three most beautiful beaches on Phuket Island. You can see the Kata Noi, the Kata Yai, and the Karon Beach from this picturesque spot.

Diving & Snorkeling are among the biggest tourist draws to Phuket Island, the surrounding waters offering some of the country’s best diving and snorkeling conditions. Excellent visibility, warm waters, colorful corals, tropical fish, manta rays, seahorses, sea turtles, and whale sharks, make the very affordable adventure worth the effort.

For a more authentic local color experience, head to the Rawai Village on the east coast of Phuket island for an acquaintance with the Moken tribe of “sea gypsies.” The area offers silver beaches, rental boats to the offshore islands, and seafood markets whose catch of the day purchase can be freshly prepared to your specifications and served to you at one of the local restaurants.

The largest of the 29 temples on Phuket Island, Wat Chalong is a popular, and beautiful, tourist destination. Dedicated to two monks, the highly respected Luang Pho Chaem and the equally revered Luang Pho Chuang, the temple includes life-size wax models of the two. There is also a protected fragment of bone from Lord Buddha himself, in the grand pagoda, among other wonders. 

The Tiger Kingdom gives you the opportunity to really get up close and personal with tigers. The Tiger Kingdom on Phuket Island raises tigers in captivity and is a great photo opportunity.

Bangla Road on Phuket Island is a great place to have an entertaining night out. Closed to traffic from sundown, the entire road transforms into an entertainment spot with indoor and outdoor bars, street entertainers, ping pong shows, beer girls, and low-priced restaurants.

The one thing you will never find on Phuket Island is boredom.
